The Legacy Program, a 2008 effort of the State Historical Society of North Dakota Foundation and the North Dakota Newspaper Association, assisted local historical societies to compile biographical information on 53 local residents who contributed to the development or history of their communities.
The biographies were published in each respective local newspaper and collected by the SHSND Foundation for preservation in the State Archives.
Citizens of Mandan, as well as its predecessors of "Morton," "Cushman, "Motsiff," "Lincoln," Fort Lincoln Military Reservation as well as Scattered Village and On-A-Slant Village, have contributed significantly to the history of our area, state and nation. With this pride, a brief synopsis on each of their lives is presented.
