Lyman Northrop Cary (1856-1929)
Lyman Cary was born on April 10, 1856. 

The Cary Real Estate office, established in 1881 by L. N. Cary, and was subsequently operated by his son, Colin Cary, until the mid 1960s.
Mr. Cary was one of the young men from the east who came to the frontier west to tjoin the influx of laborers, speculators and businessmen.  Educated as a surveyor, he bacame land agent for the Northern Pacific and operated a real estate business with his partner, Mr. Carpenter.
Living quarters were vary scarece but the two young men found accodations in a log rooming house which had a canvas roof.  According to the report this roof was as hopitable to the rain and snow as it was to tis lodgers.  Undaunted by the inconvenience, the two mene quickly doubbed their rooming house, "The Arlington" as the western counterpart of the fashionalbe Arlington Hotel in Washington, DC with which they were both familiar.
He married Anne Alison Cary.   Lyman Cary died on April 15, 1929.  He and his wife are buried in Union Cemetery, Mandan.
