Blue Thunder Logo
The Society chose the Blue Thunder symbol as its logo due to its long association with the city of Mandan. Blue Thunder was a Sioux scout who was a translator for both the famed Catholic missionary Father DeSmet as well later in life as a courier and translator for the military stationed in Mandan. He was also a tribal historian and kept a winter count or census each year. Blue Thunder was famous for his loud, booming voice which could reportedly be heard for up to five miles.
