What's New

Mandan Historical Society Endowment Fund

An endowment fund has been established with the ND Community Foundation. “We’ve celebrated our fourth anniversary.  It’s time for us to take a longer range view.” says President Birkholz, “Establishment of an endowment fund is consistent with our strategic plan.”  As with other endowment funds, the principal will remain invested in pertetutity.  Only the earnings will dispursed to support ongoing activities.

Its income can serve as a source of matching funds, vital to qualify for grants and a steady source of income for programming.  The initial $5000 donation resulted from the generousity of Board members Mary Harris and Kathye Spilman. “It’s a first step,” says Kathye, “to make a museum a reality.”  Museums typically rely on endowment funding to provide between 30% and 40% of of its operating expenses. “Our first goal is $10,000 in 3 years to guarantee our donations remain earmarked for the exclusive use of the Mandan Historical Society.”

Recent tax law changes make certain deferred contributions to an endowment fund especially attractive.  The 2007 North Dakota State Legislature passed a provision to allow up to a 40% state tax credit. Contributions to the Mandan Historical Society Endowment Fund would qualify for this tax credit.
Donations can be sent to the ND Community Foundation at PO Box 387 Bismarck, ND 58502-0387 marked for Mandan Historical Society Endowment Fund. Information can be obtained by contacting Kevin Dvorak with ND Community Foundation in Bismarck at (701) 222-8349 or via email at kdvorak@ndcf.net at their www.ndcf.net website.
